극동대학교, 외국인 유학생 대표기구 ‘유학생회’ 공식 출범

극동대학교(총장 류기일)는 본교 최초의 외국인 유학생 대표기구인 제1기 유학생회(International Student Council, 이하 ISC) 임원 임명식을 개최하고 본격적인 활동을 시작했다고 2일 밝혔다.
이번 유학생회는 외국인 유학생의 권익 보호와 학생활동 참여 기회를 확대하고자 설립된 공식 자치기구로, 총학생회 및 대학 부서와의 긴밀한 협력을 통해 문화다양성 증진과 글로벌 캠퍼스 문화 형성을 목적으로 한다.
이번 임명식에서는 △회장 칸델 아룬(AI컴퓨터공학과), △부회장 판갈리 리시라즈(AI컴퓨터공학과), △기획·회계 담당 타망 칼파나(글로벌호텔경영학과), △행사·운영 담당 바타라이 알록(글로벌호텔경영학과), △홍보 담당 라마 비누(글로벌호텔경영학과) 등 총 5명의 초대 임원이 정식 임명장을 수여받았다.
유학생회는 ▲신입생 환영회 ▲문화축제 ▲총학생회 주요 행사 참여 ▲SNS 콘텐츠 제작 및 홍보 등 다양한 프로그램을 통해 한국 학생들과의 교류를 활성화하고, 글로벌 네트워크 확대에 기여할 계획이다. 또한, 임원들에게는 총장 명의 임명장과 함께 최대 70%의 봉사 장학금이 제공되는 등 다양한 혜택도 주어진다.
이날 임명식에서 류기일 총장은 “유학생 여러분은 극동대학교의 중요한 구성원이자 글로벌 미래를 함께 만들어갈 동반자”라며, “이번 유학생회 출범이 한국 학생들과 유학생 간의 활발한 소통과 협력의 장이 되기를 기대한다”고 밝혔다. 이어 “앞으로도 극동대학교는 다양한 문화가 어우러지는 통합적 캠퍼스 조성을 위해 아낌없이 지원하겠다”고 강조했다.
한편, 유학생회는 많은 유학생들의 온라인 투표 참여로 구성됐으며, 8월 14일에는 온라인 오리엔테이션 및 연간 운영계획 워크숍도 성공적으로 진행됐다.

Far East University (President Lyu Kee-il) officially launched its first-ever International Student Council (ISC) by holding an inaugural appointment ceremony, the university announced on September 2.
The newly formed council is the university’s first official self-governing body for international students. It was established to protect the rights of international students and expand their participation in campus life. The ISC aims to promote cultural diversity and foster a global campus environment through close cooperation with the General Student Council and various university departments.

Planning & Finance Director: Kalpana Tamang (Department of Global Hotel Management)
Event & Operations Director: Alok Bhattarai (Department of Global Hotel Management)
Public Relations Director: Binu Lama (Department of Global Hotel Management)
The ISC plans to lead a wide range of programs, including welcome events for new international students, cultural festivals, participation in major campus activities hosted by the General Student Council, and content creation and promotion via social media. Executive members will receive various benefits, including a certificate of appointment signed by the university president and up to a 70% volunteer scholarship.
During the ceremony, President Lyu stated,
“You, our international students, are important members of Far East University University and partners in shaping a global future. I hope this council serves as a bridge for active communication and cooperation between Korean and international students.”
He added,
“Far East University University will continue to fully support the creation of an inclusive and multicultural campus environment.”
The ISC was formed through active participation in an online vote by many international students. Prior to the launch, an online orientation and annual planning workshop were successfully held on August 14.
